Directed by Seret Scott, performances continue through Feb. 15.

The cast features Ron Canada, Luke Forbes and Adam Gerber.

“I chose this play to be a part of our season because it is a beautifully- written, searing examination of freedom, family and faith,” said artistic director David Saint in an earlier statement. “I am so pleased to welcome this extraordinarily talented company of actors to our stage to bring this important play to life. I have long admired Seret Scott’s work both as an actor and director, and am thrilled she will be guiding this production.”

The Whipping Man, press notes state, "is set in Richmond, Virginia, in April 1865. A wounded Jewish confederate soldier returns to his family home that now stands ruined and abandoned – except for two former slaves also raised in the Jewish faith. As the three men share an improvised Seder to mark Passover, they discover that, though they are no longer tied by ownership, they remain bound by faith, history and long-buried secrets."

Creating the world of the play are scenic designer Jason Simms, costume designer Helen Huang, lighting designer Burke Brown and sound designer Ted Crimy. Casting is by McCorkle Casting, Ltd.
