Nominations for the 35th Annual GLAAD Media Awards have been announced, and a bevy of theatrical talent has been recognized!
The GLAAD Media Awards are one of the only large-scale ceremonies to honor Broadway productions, outside of the New York–based theatrical awards such as the Tony and Drama Desk Awards.
Nominees for the 2024 Outstanding Broadway Production category include Fat Ham by James Ijames, How to Dance in Ohio by Jacob Yandura and Rebekah Greer Melocik, Melissa Etheridge: My Window by Melissa Etheridge, Once Upon A One More Time by Jon Hartmere, and The Sign in Sidney Brustein's Window, by Lorraine Hansberry.
Outside of Broadway's dedicated category, movie musical The Color Purple brought in a nomination for Outstanding Film – Wide Theatrical Release, musical television show Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies netted a nomination for Outstanding New Series, and High School Musical: The Musical: The Series received a nomination for Outstanding Kids & Family Programming or Film – Live Action.
Tony winner Billy Porter received an Outstanding Music Artist nomination for his album Black Mona Lisa, as did Brandy Clark for her eponymous album and Reneé Rapp for Snow Angel. In the Outstanding Live TV Journalism – Segment or Special category, MSNBC reporter Yasmin Vossoughian's coverage of an Indiana high school's independent production of the play Marian following its cancellation due to queer themes was nominated.
