Writer-actor-musician Hershey Felder's George Gershwin Alone begins a special engagement at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles Dec. 19, for an extended run to Jan. 11, 2009.

Directed by Joel Zwick ("My Big Fat Greek Wedding"), Felder takes on the role of the musician himself in George Gershwin Alone "and exposes the dramatic path of one of America's most recognizable composers through dialogue, song and live piano performances of Gershwin's greatest works. The evening culminates in a sing along of audience favorites."

The production received 12 L.A. Ovation nominations and won four Ovation Awards, including Best Musical and Best Lead Actor in a Musical.

George Gershwin Alone: The Music of George Gershwin has music and lyrics by George and Ira Gershwin and text by Hershey Felder.

The creative team includes scenic designer Yael Pardess, lighting designer Michael T. Gilliam, sound designer Jon Gottlieb, production manager/technical director Matt Marsden, assistant lighting designer Tamora Wilson and production stage manager GiGi Garcia.

Felder also appeared in the specialty plays with music Beethoven As I Knew Him and Monsieur Chopin. There are no performances on Dec. 25, 2008, or Jan. 1, 2009. There will be performances added on Monday, Dec. 22, 2008 and Monday, Dec. 29, 2008.

The Geffen Playhouse opened its doors in 1995. Named in honor of entertainment mogul and philanthropist David Geffen, who made the initial donation to the theatre, the company is helmed by producing director and president of the board Gilbert (Gil) Cates, artistic director Randall Arney, managing director Susan Barton and chairman of the board Frank Mancuso.
