News   Fiddler on the Roof Revival, Starring Danny Burstein, Sets New Start Date; Tix On Sale This Month
The fifth Broadway revival of Fiddler on the Roof will begin previews at the Broadway Theatre Nov. 12, five days earlier than previously announced. Tickets go on sale June 6 for the musical theatre masterpiece that tells the story of Jewish milkman Tevye, who strives to maintain "Tradition" as he sees his three oldest daughters fall in love.

The show was originally scheduled to start Nov. 17. Rehearsals will begin Sept. 28, and the musical will open Dec. 17.

Producers Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel and Jam Theatricals also announced that tickets will go on sale to the general public June 6 at 10 AM. They will be available to purchase online at or by phone at (212) 239-6200.

The production will feature scenic design by Tony Award nominee Michael Yeargan (The King and I), costume design by Tony nominee Catherine Zuber (The King and I) and lighting design by Tony nominee Donald Holder (The King and I). Fiddler on the Roof will be their fifth Broadway production working with director Bartlett Sher, following South Pacific, Golden Boy, The Bridges of Madison County and The King and I. Sound design is by Scott Lehrer (A Delicate Balance, South Pacific).

As previously reported, Tony Award winner Sher (South Pacific) is to helm the fall 2015 revival, which will star five-time Tony Award nominee Danny Burstein (Cabaret, Golden Boy, South Pacific, Follies, The Drowsy Chaperone).  Further casting will be announced soon.

The revival will be based on the original conception and choreography of Jerome Robbins, who won a 1965 Tony Award for his direction and choreography of the musical, and will feature choreography by Israeli-born artist Hofesh Shechter.

Music direction and arrangements are by Ted Sperling (The King and I, South Pacific), and casting is by Telsey + Company/Abbie Brady-Dalton. The general manager is Richards/Climan, Inc.

The musical was last revived on Broadway in 2004 and starred Tony nominee Alfred Molina and Tony winner Randy Graff. Added to that Fiddler was a new song, written by Jerry Bock (music) and Sheldon Harnick (lyrics), called "Topsy-Turvy," an animated moment for Yente, the matchmaker, and the village women in Act II.

The original production, which also featured a book by Joseph Stein, opened on Broadway in 1964 and took home nine Tonys, including Best Musical.
