News Fiddler's Harnick to Be Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award Composer-lyricist Sheldon Harnick, currently represented on Broadway with the revival of Fiddler on the Roof, will be presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award at an upcoming gala at the Rainbow Room.

The 20th Annual Lifetime Achievement Awards, selected by the 200-member Guild Hall Academy of the Arts, will be held March 14. Honorees include Harnick for Performing Arts, novelist Louis Begley for Literary Arts, photographer/artist Cindy Sherman for Visual Arts and real estate developer-philanthropist Marshall Rose for Lifelong Patron of the Arts.

The awards were established in 1985 by the Board of Trustees of Guild Hall to celebrate the wealth of artists on the East End of Long Island. The first "Medals of Merit" winners were Kurt Vonnegut, Willem de Kooning and Alan Alda. The Academy of Arts was formed in 1986. This year's gala will also pay tribute to the over 60 artists who have been honored in the past 19 years.

The evening begins at 6:30 PM with cocktails, followed by a 7:30 PM dinner and the awards ceremony and tributes.

Sheldon Harnick is best known for his award-winning lyrics to such musicals as Fiddler on the Roof, She Loves Me, The Apple Tree, Fiorello! and The Rothschilds. He also penned book, music and lyrics for Dragons. She Loves Me, his musical with frequent collaborator Jerry Bock, was presented earlier this season at New Jersey's Paper Mill Playhouse.

Tickets range from $600-$1,500 with tables of ten priced $12,000-$25,000. For more information, call Carole Dioguardi at (631) 324-0806.
