Fiennes, according to Variety, will also star in the title role of the motion picture, which will likely be filmed in East Europe. The industry paper also reports that Tony Award winner Vanessa Redgrave is currently in negotiations to play Volumnia, Coriolanus' mother.

Coriolanus, according to Variety, concerns the "proud but contemptuous soldier spurred on by his ambitious mother to run for the Roman Senate, which ultimately leads to his downfall."

Fiennes has been seen on Broadway in Hamlet and Faith Healer. He was Tony-nominated for both performances and won the award for his work in the former. Fiennes was Oscar-nominated for his roles in "Schindler's List" and "The English Patient."
