Lincoln Center Theater will host an unusual theatre event on Dec. 9, when composer William Finn sits in the director's chair and actor Chip Zien dons the playwright's hat for a new piece called Death in Ashtabula. The event takes place at 7:30 PM at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater. Zien wrote the one-man show and stars as well. The work is described this way: "In his all-spoken, tour de neurosis, Chip Zien explains how a bad thing that happened to him when he was young made him feel obligated and guilty enough 30 years later to go to Ashtabula, OH, for six weeks. The trip paid off in ways he never imagined."

The performance is free. Tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis at the Lincoln Center Theater box office, beginning at 10 AM on Dec. 9. For further information, call (212) 362-7600.
