News Fiona Shaw and Daniel Hay-Gordon to Star in The Rime of the Ancient Marineer at London's Old Vic Tunnels Fiona Shaw and dancer Daniel Hay-Gordon will perform Samuel Taylor Coleridge's epic poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner onstage at London's Old Vic Tunnels, beginning performances Jan. 4, 2013, prior to an official opening Jan. 8, for a run of 18 performances only through Jan. 13.

Produced by the Young Vic Theatre, it will be directed by Phyllida Lloyd with choreography by Kim Brandstrup.

In a press statement, Lloyd commented, "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner is the theatre of our childhood – of rhymes and sticks and a rope – a world where small things carry vast meaning. Two performers make this story hang in the air for just a moment, to live on only in the memory of the audience. We premiered the work at the Athens and Epidaurus Festival earlier this year and are delighted to share it again with audiences in London."

Shaw previously worked for the Young Vic when she directed Hans Werner Henze's Elegy for Young Lovers there in 2010 in a co-production with English National Opera.  She's most recently been seen on the London stage in Scenes from an Execution at the National Theatre, where other credits include London Assurance, Mother Courage And Her Children, Happy Days, The Good Person of Sichuan and The Rivals. She has also worked extensively for the RSC, including Electra (for which she won an Olivier Award) and Les Liaisons Dangereuses. On film, she is best known for playing Petunia Dursley in the "Harry Potter" films.

Lloyd is currently represented in London by the all-female production of Julius Caesar at the Donmar Warehouse. Other credits include the global success of Mamma Mia! (both onstage and its subsequent film version) and Mary Stuart (Donmar Warehouse, West End and Broadway). On film, she has also directed "The Iron Lady" with Meryl Streep.

Brandstrup has created work for The Royal Ballet, English National Ballet, Rambert Dance Company, Birmingham Royal Ballet, English National Opera, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, the Metropolitan Opera and Milan's Teatro alla Scala. His own company, Arc Dance Company, was established in 1985. He last worked with Phyllida Lloyd on "The Iron Lady," and earlier this year choreographed Opera North's revival of Carousel.
