The Off-Broadway premiere of Bekah Brunstetter's The Cake, starring Debra Jo Rupp, will officially open March 5 at New York City Center. The Manhattan Theatre Club staging, directed by artistic director Lynne Meadow, follows productions of the play in Los Angeles, the Berkshires, and elsewhere.

In The Cake, a North Carolina baker (Rupp) is forced to re-examine her deeply held beliefs when her late best friend’s daughter asks her to make a cake for her lesbian wedding. Rupp, who is reprising the role of Della from previous productions, is joined Off-Broadway by Marinda Anderson (Teenage Dick, Far From Heaven), Genevieve Angelson (Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, The Upside), and Dan Daily (The Rivals, Seabiscuit).

The Cake is playing at New York City Center – Stage I, where it will officially open March 5.
