Classic Arts News First Look at the World Premiere Opera The Nefarious, Immoral but Highly Profitable Enterprise of Mr. Burke & Mr. Hare Boston Lyric Opera presents Julian Grant and Mark Campbell‘s opera about serial killers in 19th century Scotland.

Boston Lyric Opera presents the world premiere of Julian Grant and Mark Campbell‘s The Nefarious, Immoral but Highly Profitable Enterprise of Mr. Burke & Mr. Hare beginning November 8. The chamber opera runs at The Cyclorama at the Boston Center for the Arts in Boston, MA through November 12.

According to press notes, the opera, based on real events, follows serial murderers William Burke and William Hare as they form a scheme to murder disenfranchised citizens and sell their corpses to Dr. Robert Knox's medical academy.

The production stars William Burden as Robert Knox, Jesse Blumberg as William Burke, Craig Colclough as William Hare, and Scottish soprano Marie McLaughlin as Abigail Simpson.
