Take a first look at Pulitzer Prize finalist Stephen Karam new comedy-drama The Humans. The play opened Off-Broadway at Roundabout's Theatre beginning Sept. 30, helmed by Wicked Tony winner Joe Mantello. The Manhattan-set play takes place during a family Thanksgiving dinner.

The cast features Tony nomineee Jayne Houdyshell, Cassie Beck, Reed Birney, Sarah Steele, Lauren Klein and Arian Moayed.

Performances are set to run through Dec. 27, with an official opening night Oct. 25 at the Laura Pels Theatre in the Harold & Miriam Steinberg Centre for Theatre.

Here's how The Humans is described by the theatre: "After a sleepless night, Mr. Blake has brought his family from Pennsylvania to celebrate Thanksgiving at his daughter's new apartment. As darkness falls outside the crumbling pre-war duplex, mysterious things start to go bump in the night and family tensions reach a boiling point. Stephen Karam (Sons of the Prophet, Speech & Debate) takes a fresh look at the hilarity, heart and horrors of the modern American family."

The Humans is part of Roundabout's New Play Initiative, a collection of programs designed to foster and produce new work by emerging and established artists. The Humans is Karam’s second commission from Roundabout following Sons of the Prophet (2012 Pulitzer Prize Finalist, 2012 Drama Critics Circle, Outer Critics Circle, Lucille Lortel and Hull-Warriner Awards for Best Play; inaugural Sam Norkin Drama Desk Award). Roundabout also produced his 2007 playwriting debut Speech & Debate, which also starred Steele. The creative team includes David Zinn (sets), Sarah Laux (costumes), Justin Townsend (lighting) and Fitz Patton (sound).

The Laura Pels Theatre is located at 111 West 46th Street. For more information, call (212) 719-1300 or visit
