News Flood of Broadway Plays Prompts Added "Play Only" Ticket Window at TKTS Times Square Due to the number of new plays just opened or currently in previews on Broadway, Theatre Development Fund (TDF) has added a second "Play Only" window at the new TKTS Booth — a popular source for same-day discounted tickets — in Times Square at Broadway and 47th Street.

The "Play Only" windows at TKTS "stimulate attendance at non-musical productions" and get tickets in playgoers' hands more quickly, TDF announced April 14. At the "Play Only" windows (which are windows No. 11 and 12 at new TKTS Booth), "there is rarely a wait for theatregoers to purchase same-day discount tickets for dramas and comedies playing on and Off-Broadway during regular TKTS hours," according to TDF.

"The 'Play Only' window has been of great service to New Yorkers and tourists who enjoy seeing the newest plays on and Off Broadway, but are sometimes daunted by the lines at TKTS when we first open in the afternoon," said Victoria Bailey, TDF's executive director. "This spring's exciting new roster of plays has made the demand even greater and we are happy to dedicate a second 'Play Only' window to accommodate New York's playlovers. Having ticket windows dedicated selling dramas and comedies has proven to be a win-win situation for both the customers and the productions"

The 15 Broadway plays available April 14 at TKTS's "Play Only" windows in Times Square were: 33 Variations; Accent on Youth; August: Osage County; Blithe Spirit; Desire Under the Elms; Exit the King; Impressionism; Irena's Vow; Joe Turner's Come and Gone; Mary Stuart; reasons to be pretty; The 39 Steps; The Philanthropist; The Norman Conquests and Waiting for Godot.

TKTS accepts credit cards, cash and traveler's checks.

How to use the "Play Only" window at TKTS Times Square:
When you get to TKTS, check the board that displays what shows are on sale. Any show with a "P" next to the title is also available at the "Play Only" window. Walk up to one of the windows with the sign "Play Only" above it (window No. 11 or No. 12) and get your tickets. (You can also buy a play at any TKTS ticket window.) TKTS Times Square hours are Monday-Saturday 3 PM to 8 PM for 8 PM performances (on Tuesdays open at 2 PM for 7 PM performances); Wednesday and Saturdays from 10 AM to 2 PM for 2 PM matinees; Sundays 11 AM to 3 PM for matinee performances; 3 PM-7 PM for evening performances.

For a possibly shorter wait for all shows, you can check out TDF's other TKTS Booths:

  • Lower Manhattan TKTS Booth at South Street Seaport (corner of Front and John Streets) Monday-Saturday from 11 AM to 6 PM for evening performances; Sundays from 11 AM to 4 PM for evening performances.
  • TKTS Downtown Brooklyn (corner of Jay Street and Myrtle Avenue Promenade) Tuesday-Saturday 11 AM to 6 PM. At these satellite TKTS booths, matinee performances are sold only on the day before the performance at this location (i.e., Wednesday matinees sold on Tuesday, Saturday matinees sold on Friday, Sunday matinees sold on Saturday).
