Classic Arts News Florida Orchestra and Musicians Extend Contract The Florida Orchestra and its musicians have agreed to continue performing under their previous contract while a new deal is negotiated, the St. Petersburg Times reports.
The Tampa-based orchestra, which opened its season on Saturday, October 2, is the latest of several ensembles around the country to agree to "play and talk." Musicians in New York, Chicago, Cleveland, and Philadelphia are also playing under contract extensions.

"We haven't reached an agreement, but we're still talking," said bass trombonist Harold van Schaik, a representative of the musicians, told the Time.

The current contract for the part-time orchestra calls for a minimum salary of $23,870.
