The upcoming season marks a "refined" focus of programming for the Equity company known for contemporary voices. Expect a "Nouveau Classic blend of classics and new works."

Andrew Case's The Rant will play Sept. 2-Oct. 26. In the world premiere contemporary drama, "an investigator is assigned to the murder case of a 16-year-old African-American boy, killed by an NYPD police officer, and must wade through prejudice, deceit, and a volley of anonymous threats to find hidden truth."

The world premiere of local playwright Michelle Rosenfarb's The Gates of Choice will play Nov. 13–Dec. 14, 2008. "Set in the Israeli Ultra Orthodox quarter of Mea Shearim, the play's protagonist is a young, Hasidic woman faced with an arranged marriage who finds refuge and answers in a taboo relationship."

The world premiere of Robert Caisley's Kissing romantic comedy will run Jan. 15-Feb. 15, 2009. "This biologically ticking comedy heats up after an illicit office kiss sends the lives of two couples spinning out-of-control," according New Theatre.

The "second classic" of the season will be Tennessee Williams' The Glass Menagerie (Feb. 26-March 29, 2009) will be followed by a run of Theresa Rebeck's recent Broadway play, Mauritius about two sisters claiming ownership of a family stamp collection. New Theatre might be best known outside of Coral Gables, FL, for its world premiere of Anna in the Tropics, the Pulitzer Prize winning play by Nilo Cruz.
