Olivier Award winner Janie Dee, who recently starred as Phyllis in the National Theatre revival of Follies, is among the cast of The Happy Prince, a new musical to be presented at London's Place Theatre May 3 and 4. Composer Hal Cazalet, who wrote the show alongside book writer Michael Barry, will direct the three showcase presentations.

The show is a stage adaptation of Oscar Wilde's fairy tale, about a statue who strips himself of his opulence, with the help of a swallow, to aid those in his town living in poverty.

Dee will play Mrs. Bentley, with Sam Archer (Wise Children) as the Prince, Phil Daniels (Les Misérables, Moonfleet) as the Mayor, and Sophia Hurdley (The Phantom of the Opera film) as the Swallow. Archer and Hurdley, both members of Matthew Bourne's New Adventures company, will choreograph.
