"I was elated. I'm so happy. I'm so proud and thrilled and over-the-moon for this show's recognition," the singing actor, whose Broadway credits also include Mary Poppins, Spamalot, Amour, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Jesus Christ Superstar and Footloose, told May 1, the morning the Tony nominations were announced.

"I'm so proud of [co-directors] Alex [Timbers] and Roger [Rees] and that they got recognized for the extraordinary work that they did, and for Rick, who wrote that beautiful play. I just can't believe it," Borle added. "And, everybody! Every time they said Peter and the Starcatcher, I was sitting here alone, [but] I might have stood up at one point."

Borle, who was previously Tony-nominated for his work as Emmett Forrest in Legally Blonde The Musical, said a nomination is something "you dream about it. Not to be corny about it, but it's a Tony Award. I was proud to be nominated before. I have my little Tony nominee pin on my mantle, and it's a great thrill and a great honor."

When asked the challenges of his current role, Borle answered with a laugh, "You know, I'm not a spring chicken anymore, so it's staying limber and taking care of my voice because when you over-act that much, it requires a lot of vocal energy!"

Borle believes the popularity of Starcatcher is due to the fact that it is "one of those rare shows that includes everybody. There's something for younger people that they think it's cool and that it's speaking to them. There are obviously references to Philip Glass and Proust that make the adults and more literary people in the crowd think that the play is just for them, and then I think the adventure aspect of it—there's something about it that taps into what we all felt like when we were all able to play, as kids." In addition to his Broadway gig, fans of the actor can catch him Monday nights as composer Tom Levitt on the NBC musical series "Smash." About his success on both stage and screen Borle said, "I'm trying to just appreciate how incredibly lucky I have been this year. I feel like I work hard, and I'm proud of the work that I've done since moving to New York a couple of decades ago. But to have so many over-the-top, wonderful things happen within the course of the year has been kind of dizzying and amazing, and I'm just really, really grateful. It's been a lot of fun—I can't lie!"
