Playwrights Horizons’ production of For Peter Pan on her 70th birthday opens September 13 in the company’s Mainstage Theater. The new play by two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist and Tony nominee Sarah Ruhl weaves a tale of grief, family, second youth, and the inevitability of growing old.

The Off-Broadway premiere is directed by Les Waters and stars Tony nominee and three-time Obie winner Kathleen Chalfant as Ann, a woman for whom playing Peter Pan at her hometown children’s theatre is one of her fondest memories.

Performances of For Peter Pan on her 70th birthday began August 18 and are scheduled through October 1.

Chalfant is joined by David Chandler, Ron Crawford, Lisa Emery, Daniel Jenkins, and Keith Reddin.

The production features scenic design by Tony Award winner David Zinn, costume design by Kristopher Castle, lighting design by Matt Frey, original music and sound design by Obie Award winner Bray Poor and Charles Coes, animals by Tony Award-winning William Berloni Theatrical Animals, and flying effects by ZFX, Inc.; the fight and fly director is Ryan Bourque. Production stage manager is Amanda Spooner.

For Peter Pan on her 70th birthday had its world premiere at The 2016 Humana Festival of New American Plays at Actors Theatre of Louisville. Chalfant, Chandler, Crawford, Emery, and Reddin also starred.
