News Forbidden Broadway Alumni Reunite for Gerard Alessandrini's Madame X at NYMF Donna English, Edward Staudenmayer and Michael West have been cast in Madame X, the new musical by Tony-winning Forbidden Broadway creator Gerard Alessandrini, which will debut at the New York Musical Theatre Festival beginning Sept. 26.

Alessandrini, who wrote book, music and lyrics with Robert Hetzel, will direct the NYMF production that will run through Oct. 9 a the 47th Street Theatre. Madame X, which will be presented in concert format, will have musical direction by David Caldwell and Richard Danley.

The cast reunites Forbidden Broadway veterans English (Ruthless!, Lend Me a Tenor), Staudenmayer (Spamalot) and West (Newsical), who will appear alongside Bill Coyne, Sean Bell and Mike Longo.

According to the authors, "Madame X is a the brand new twist on John Singer Sargent's classic portrait 'Madame X,' and follows the meteoric rise and downward spiral of an over-sexed '50s housewife who won't take responsibility for her own hedonism-until it's too late! The portrait served as the inspiration for the 1905 drama by Alexander Bisson, which in turn spawned nine films, from a 1916 silent version, to a 1966 Lana Turner vehicle."

Alessandrini created the long-running Off-Broadway hit Forbidden Broadway in 1982. During its 27-year New York run, Forbidden Broadway resulted in 20 editions and ten cast albums. Alessandrini's upcoming musical The Nutcracker and I, co-authored with Emmy Award winner Peter Brash, will debut at the George Street Playhouse this holiday season.
