News   Forecast is Rain as Four Cast in Seattle Staging of MGM Musical Singin'
When it rains... it's Seattle. The leads are set for the upcoming The 5th Avenue Theatre presentation of Singin’ in the Rain appropriately coming to the Emerald City, Feb. 12-March 5.

Tickets are now on sale for the co-production with Houston's Theatre Under The Stars, Houston, Sacramento's California Musical Theatre and Seattle's The 5th Avenue Musical Theatre Company. Jamie Rocco directs and choreographs.

The Seattle production stars Michael Gruber (Broadway's Swing!, A Chorus Line) as the role Gene Kelly made famous, Don Lockwood. Michael Arnold (Kiss Me, Kate; Cabaret) portrays Cosmo Brown opposite Christina Saffran Ashford (Sophisticated Ladies, The Music Man) as Kathy Seldon and Lisa Estridge (5th Avenue's Hair, Smokey Joe's Cafe) as silent movie star Lina Lamont.

Based on the classic 1952 MGM movie musical, the stage version Singin’ in the Rain follows the Hollywood story set against a backdrop of the 1920's silent movie industry and the revolution of sound.

The show features music by Nacio Herb Brown, lyrics by Seattle-area native Arthur Freed and a book by Betty Comden and Adolph Green (based on their screenplay). The score includes such celebrated songs as "Good Morning," "All I Do Is Dream of You," "Broadway Melody," "You Are My Lucky Star," "Moses Supposes," "Make 'Em Laugh," and the title song (featuring a drenching dance scene, just as the flim did).

The Tony-nominated stage version made its Broadway debut on July 2, 1985 and ran for 367 performances. The licensed version of the show includes revisions since the Broadway production, which was directed and choreographed by Twyla Tharp. Jeff Rizzo serves as musical director and conductor. The design team includes Tom Sturge (lighting), Greg Barnes (costumes), Michael Anania (set), Andy Horka (sound) and Mary Pyanowski (hair/make-up).

Tickets to Singin’ in the Rain at The 5th Avenue Theatre, 1308 5th Avenue in downtown Seattle, Washington, are available by phone at (206) 292-ARTS (2787) or visit
