Classic Arts News Former Martha Graham Dancer Dies Larry White, a modern dance teacher, choreographer, and former Martha Graham dancer, died from cancer Friday, September 3, according to an obituary in the Dallas Morning News.
White began his dance career with the Minnesota Dance Theatre in 1970. He later moved to New York, joining the Martha Graham Dance Company in 1980 and performing as a principal dancer for the group from 1984-1987.

A longtime teacher, White taught dance at the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance, the Alvin Ailey School, and programs in Los Angeles, Stockholm, and Manila. He also served as a lecturer at the Hong Kong Academy for the Performing Arts in China. Most recently, he taught in the dance department at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.

White created more than 60 pieces during his lifetime. His last, Rendencion, was based on his love of tango and premiered in Dallas last fall.
