The famed regional theatre announced July 29 that the William W. and Nadine M. McGuire Foundation has pledged $10 million for the Guthrie on the River capital campaign. The foundation, which was established in 1996, "provides philanthropic support to nonprofit initiatives in the arts, sciences and educational fields." In a statement, Guthrie artistic director Joe Dowling said, "The challenge of raising $85 million dollars for the Theater can be realized thanks to extraordinary gifts such as this one from Bill and Nadine McGuire through the McGuire Foundation. It has always seemed right for the project’s funding to come from a combination of leadership gifts like this one and broad public support, thus reflecting the role of the Guthrie in our cultural community. Lead gifts like the McGuire pledge are key to our success."
Nadine McGuire, foundation spokesperson, added, "Ensuring that our community, state and nation continues to benefit from the artistic and creative leadership long associated with the Guthrie Theater is of critical importance. Support of The Guthrie on the River capital campaign is a compelling opportunity and an exciting way to demonstrate our confidence in this initiative and the long-term vitality of the arts in Minnesota."
The Guthrie Theater is located in Minneapolis at 725 Vineland Place. For more information, go to www.guthrietheater.org.
