"Frances Ha" Filmmaker Turns Camera on the People of Times Square | Playbill

News "Frances Ha" Filmmaker Turns Camera on the People of Times Square Greta Gerwig, whose 2012 movie "Frances Ha" became a cult favorite, has taken on another gawky New York artsy character in her latest film, "Mistress America," which was filmed in and around the Broadway theatre district.

Directed and co-written by Noah Baumbach (who also did those jobs on "Frances Ha"), the move tells the story of Tracy, a young woman who meets her step-sister-to-be Brooke (Gerwig) for the first time.

Brooke is a not-terribly-successful interior decorator who makes her home near Times Square and introduces her future sister to life in New York. Where her aspiring dancer character in "Frances Ha" could never find a single place to be comfortable, her aspiring decorator character is firmly rooted in the Big Apple.

The film is due out in cinemas Aug. 14.
