Seen in an Off-Broadway run that played September 2010 to April 2011, Freckleface Strawberry resurfaces for Saturday and Sunday performances featuring a non-Equity cast at MMAC Theatre (Manhattan Movement and Arts Theatre) at 248 W. 60th Street between Amsterdam Avenue and West End Avenue.
Inspired by the illustrated children's book written by Julianne Moore, the musical about a girl who is self-conscious about her complexion previously played New World Stages. Buddy Crutchfield directs. Gail Pennington Crutchfield choreographs. Music and lyrics are by Gary Kupper, with book by Kupper and producer Rose Caiola.
The creative team includes set designer Adam Koch; costume designers Holly Cain and Fabio Toblini; and lighting and sound designer Bernie Dove.
Freckleface Strawberry went on hiatus at New World Stages after the April 24 performance. The final cast included Sanjaya Malakar, an "American Idol" veteran.
MMAC Theatre, a new 199-seat theatre, is a few blocks away from Lincoln Center. The MMAC performance schedule will be Saturday and Sunday at 1 PM and 3 PM. Visit www.frecklefacethemusical.com for information about special added holiday performances in November and December.
