The exhibit includes 43 early twentieth-century German and Austrian drawings by such artists as Max Beckmann, Egon Schiele, Otto Dix, George Grosz, Oskar Kokoschka and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner. Twenty-two artists are represented in the Ebb collection, which is shown in its entirety. Most of the paintings are from the expressionist-dominated period of 1910 to 1925. A catalog of the exhibit includes reminiscences of Fred Ebb by John Kander, his songwriting partner. Ebb, who passed away in 2004, penned the lyrics for such musicals as Cabaret, Woman of the Year and Kiss of the Spider Woman (all Tony Award winners for Best Score), as well as Chicago, Zorba, The Rink, 70 Girls 70, The Act, Steel Pier and the new musicals Curtains on Broadway and All About Us at the Westport Country Playhouse. Kander and Ebb's 1965 Broadway musical debut Flora the Red Menace introduced Liza Minnelli to Broadway.
