Prior to its West End transfer, Ghost the Musical finished a pre-West End run at Manchester's Opera House to sold-out houses. The stage version of the Academy Award-winning film stars Richard Fleeshman (West End's Legally Blonde) and Caissie Levy (Hair) as Sam and Molly, respectively, in the production directed by Matthew Warchus.

Other members of the cast include Sharon D. Clarke (Oda Mae Brown), Andrew Langtree (Carl), Ivan de Freitas (Willie Lopez), Adebayo Bolaji (Subway Ghost), Mark Pearce (Hospital Ghost), Lisa Davina Phillip (Clara), Jenny Fitzpatrick (Louise) and ensemble members Jaygan Ayeh, Paul Ayres, Darren Carnall, Rochelle Neil, Michael Peters, Laura Selwood, Yemie Sonuga, Spencer Stafford, Phillipa Stefani, Jez Unwin and Sally Whitehead.

Ghost the Musical is described as "a timeless fantasy about the power of love." According to press notes, "Walking back to their apartment one night, Sam and Molly are mugged, leaving Sam murdered on a dark street. Sam is trapped as a ghost between this world and the next and unable to leave Molly who he learns is in grave danger. With the help of a phony storefront psychic, Oda Mae Brown, Sam tries to communicate with Molly in the hope of saving and protecting her."
