Classic Arts News Free 'New York Philharmonic Offstage' Program to Feature Lang Lang on June 6 Pianist Lang Lang is this month's guest for New York Philharmonic Offstage, an occasional series of discussions and performances sponsored by the orchestra. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6 in the third floor performance space of the Lincoln Triangle branch of Barnes & Noble, at Broadway and West 65th St. in Manhattan.
Jeff Spurgeon of New York radio station WQXR-FM will introduce Lang Lang and moderate the discussion portion of the event, after which the pianist will be available to sign copies of his recent recordings — including a new DG release of Beethoven's Piano Concertos Nos. 1 and 4, with Christoph Eschenbach conducting the Orchestre de Paris.

Lang Lang will be the New York Philharmonic's featured soloist this week, performing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 (the "Emperor") under conductor Riccardo Muti. The program also includes an overture by Cherubini and Hindemith's oratorio Sancta Susanna. Information and tickets are available at www.nyphil.org.
