News Free Performance of Revised Version of Richard Rodgers and Sheldon Harnick's Rex Will Play Utah Festival The Utah Festival of Opera & Musical Theatre will present a revised version of the 1976 Broadway musical Rex, featuring music by late Tony Award winner Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Tony winner Sheldon Harnick, July 31.

Rex, according to UFOMT, "chronicles the life, loves, and politics of King Henry VIII," who will be played by Michael Ballam.

The free 1 PM performance at the Ellen Eccles Theatre will be attended by lyricist Harnick and librettist Sherman Yellen.


Rex opened April 25, 1976, at Broadway's Lunt-Fontanne Theatre and starred Nicol Williamson and Penny Fuller, who were both nominated for Drama Desk Awards for their performances. The musical played 48 regular performances through June 5, 1976.
