Hand, Foot, Arm and Face, according to production notes, is set in November 2001 when "two young, impulsive lovers — an Iraqi man and an American woman — run away together to the obscurity of southern Indiana to start anew, only to quickly realize that escaping the past involves a lot more than a change of location."

Mat Smart's plays include The Hopper Collection, The Debate Over Courtney O'Connell of Columbus, Nebraska, Shoes, Chopin's Preludes and The Bebop Heard in Okinawa. He is currently at work on Telescopes and the rock musical Keep Ishmael, which features music by Ethan Deppe.
