News Friends Engage in Meaningless Sex, the Musical, in NYC Fringe, Aug. 11-21 Meaningless Sex, a new musical with the provocative kind of title for which the New York International Fringe Festival is known, plays Aug. 11-21 in The Great Hall at Cooper Union.

Parenthetically Speaking Productions presents the show, about "secret affairs, twisted passion, denied love, and lots of sex." Music and lyrics by Seth Bisen-Hersh, book is by Brendan Clifford, with direction by Andrew Henkes.

"A promiscuous diva, an undersexed straight guy, a love starved gay boy and a virgin come together in one explosive night," according to the announcement for the musical. "Find out what's underneath the covers in this off-beat musical."

According to production notes, "The show opens at the cast party after the untimely closing of Love Story, a sappy Off-Broadway musical. One by one, Matt, Carla, Beth and Joey arrive at the bar that they frequented during the show for a final night together. The night is filled with drinking and sexual tension, and over the course of the evening, each makes unpleasant discoveries about the truth of their feelings toward one another, ultimately leading to a face-off between meaningless sex and romantic love. One part parable, one part sex comedy — all inspired fun."

Meaningless Sex features Ari Butler, Brian T. Hamilton, Courtney Markov, Amelia Morgan-Rothschild, Rori Nogee and Chad Privette. David Lung is producer. Musical direction is by songwriter Seth Bisen-Hersh.

Song titles include "If Only I Were Gay," "Fuck Friends," and the title song. Tickets are $15. The Great Hall at Cooper Union is at 7 E. 7th Street at Astor Place. Shows in the fringe fest are presented on scattered dates and times. For reservations or more information, call (212) 279-4488 or visit www.fringenyc.org.
