LONG BEACH, CA -- All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten will open International City Theatre's second season at the Center Theatre on Feb. 13 for a four-week run through March 8, with previews starting Feb. 10.

A gala pre-show dinner at L'Opera restaurant will be hosted by Long Beach Mayor Beverly O'Neill on opening night.

Based on best-selling author Robert Fulghum's first five books, All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten is directed by caryn morse desai and stars Christoper Callan, Dan Collins, Ilene Graff, Jacob Witkin and Robert Yacko.

Fulghum's work was adapted for the stage by Ernest Zulia, with original music and lyrics by David Caldwell.

"A friend and I spent a weekend reading Fulghum's books aloud in a vacation trailer," said Zulia. "We had won a contest in which the prize was a weekend at what we thought was a resort; it turned out to be a timeshare in a trailer park. We had the best time reading -- just laughing and crying out loud the whole time. It hit me that the books would work wonderfully as spoken word." Zulia calls his adaptation a storytelling event with songs.

The Center Theatre is located at 300 E. Ocean Blvd. For reservations and information call (562) 938-4128. -- By Willard Manus
