Joining the previously announced Harriet Walter (in the title role), Jade Anouka (Hotspur), Clare Dunne (Hal) and Ashley McGuire (Falstaff) are Elizabeth Chan, Jackie Clune, Shiloh Coke, Karen Dunbar, Cynthia Erivo, Zainab Hasan, Jennifer Joseph, Ann Ogbomo, Ashley McGuire, Katie Robinson and Sharon Rooney.

Directed by Phyllida Lloyd, who previously directed the all-female Julius Caesar at the Donmar in 2012 that subsequently played a New York season at St. Ann’s Warehouse and also featured Harriet Walter, the production will encompass action from both Henry IV Part I and Part II to create a single narrative of Shakespeare’s monumental history plays.

The production will be designed by Ellen Nabarro, with costumes by Deborah Andrews, lighting by Neil Austin, sound by Tom Gibbons, music composed by Gary Yershon, movement by Ann Yee, fight direction by Kate Waters and video design by Duncan McLean.

An extensive education program around the production will culminate in the production taking up a week’s residency at Mulberry School for Girls in Tower Hamlets. The school is a pioneer in women’s education and this year celebrates its 50th anniversary. According to press materials, this residency will bring the Donmar’s internationally renowned artists to communities in Tower Hamlets, encouraging them to take ownership of Shakespeare and fostering a dialogue on the importance of our national playwright.
