Fun Home Cast Recap Their March For Equality at This Year’s Pride Parade | Playbill

Playbill Pride Fun Home Cast Recap Their March For Equality at This Year’s Pride Parade The cast of Broadway’s Fun Home celebrated Pride by walking alongside PFLAG New York City in Sunday’s Pride march. They share what the march meant to them.

Members of the cast of Fun Home marched tall at this year’s annual Pride Parade, held June 26 in New York City. Emily Skeggs, who originated the role of Medium Alison on Broadway, took over Playbill’s SnapChat to share the Pride Parade experience with viewers around the world. (Watch the SnapChat story above.) After showing their support for the LGBTQ community, members of the cast who marched for equality reflect on the experience at this year’s Pride festivities.

Emily Skeggs (Medium Alison)
As a member and ally of the LGBT community, and as a woman, I am politicized. Everything I do—sometimes even just my biological existence—has been made a political act by politicians who decide they have the right to say what I can and can’t do with my body and mind at any given time in any given place. It was an honor yesterday to stand with my Fun Home family and, by my own choice and my choice alone, participate in a political act. To say love cannot be defined by its counterpoint, hate; love endures beyond all other things. When nothing is left there will be love; love will always win. It was a beautiful day, and I'm so grateful to have been there.

It was a blast! I felt so proud to represent Fun Home during the march. All of the smiles and love coming from the crowd and fellow marchers made my heart burst! Love is love!

Zell Steele Morrow (John)
The parade was such an awesome experience for me! I loved how we all marched together to celebrate everyone being equal. It was so special to be with my Fun Home family. We love each other so much, and I will never forget it!

Roberta Colindrez (Joan)
So much of the spirit of Pride comes from the resilience a person or a group exercises in times of hardship. So when you see or experience something like this march it just feels like whatever voices there are saying people shouldn’t be allowed to be who they are just get quiet.

Lauren Patten (former Medium Alison)
Being in Fun Home has shown me that being an ally isn’t a passive role. It was so joyous to march in celebration and support of my friends and the fans of the show who are part of the LGBTQ community. After the tragedy in Orlando, it felt so good to take over the streets and march without fear. I refuse to be afraid to celebrate love in the face of hate.

Kally Duling (Joan/Medium Alison understudy)
I’m not sure I’ve ever felt as much love, happiness, peace and pride as I felt walking down Fifth Avenue yesterday. Representing Fun Home with people that I love so much in the Pride march and hearing spectators shout their love and support for our show was incredible. I’m so grateful and honored to be a part of a community that is standing up for equality in a time when it is imperative that our voices are heard. I couldn’t have asked for a more meaningful opportunity than this.

Nicole Van Giesen (Helen/Alison understudy)
Both at the LGBT Pride Run and Pride Parade, I was most affected by the experience of the community itself. The sensation of joy, love and excitement is palpable. So many conversations sparked up during both activities with complete strangers that made us feel like we had been friends forever. It was such privilege to be there celebrating the beauty that exists within the human race, inspiring hope for the future.
