News Fun Home Star Cast in Beaches Remake as Young Idina Menzel Gabriella Pizzolo has been cast in the new version of the Bette Midler classic.

Gabriella Pizzolo, who plays Small Alison in the Tony-winning Broadway musical Fun Home, has been cast as the younger version of CC — the character played by Tony winner Idina Menzel — in the forthcoming TV remake of the classic Bette Midler film Beaches, according to TVLine.com.

Grace Capeless, who co-starred with Pizzolo in Broadway's Matilda The Musical, will be seen as the younger version of Nia Long’s character Hillary. Other casting includes Jodi Capeless, Grace's mother, who will play Leona (CC's mom) and Sanai Victoria, who will be seen as Hillary's daughter, Tori.

In the TV remake, Long appears in the role originated by Barbara Hershey, Menzel in the role originated by Midler. The film traces the stories of two young women who meet on a beach and become lifelong friends.

Shooting recently began, with a premiere targeted for 2017 on Lifetime TV. Allison Anders (Ring of Fire) directs a script by Bart Barker and Nikole Beckwith.
