The Producers' Gary Beach and Thomas Meehan (but not the increasingly elusive Mel Brooks) will be featured on the May 25 edition of "Theater Talk," the popular PBS program hosted by producer Susan Haskins and New York Post columnist Michael Riedel. Beach plays the campy director Roger DeBris, who is forced to go on as a dancing and singing Adolph Hitler in the show's musical-within-a musical, "Springtime for Hitler." Meehan co-penned the book with Brooks. Both Beach and Meehan are up for Tony Awards, and both are heavy favorites.
Also on the program will be Gary Smith, the executive producer of the 2001 Tony broadcast. Smith will talk about the plans for this year's show, which will be hosted by Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick and feature a bevy of female presenters. ["Theater Talk"'s regular midnight starting time on Channel 13 is delayed this week because of the re-broadcast of the 2001 Drama Desk awards, which begin at 9 PM. "Theatre Talk" will commence at 12:20 AM.]
