News GA's Streetcar Pulls Out of Theatre in the Square April 29 Tennessee Williams' steamy New Orleans drama, A Streetcar Named Desire, will close in its Southern revival at Marietta, Georgia's Theatre in the Square April 29. Performances began March 21.

Tennessee Williams' steamy New Orleans drama, A Streetcar Named Desire, will close in its Southern revival at Marietta, Georgia's Theatre in the Square April 29. Performances began March 21.

Williams' most famous work, A Streetcar Named Desire pits delicate flower Blanche and her romantic ideals against the animal magnetism of Stanley, her sister Stella's hulking husband. Already awash in emotional anguish, Blanche's grip on reality slips as she's faced with the reality of her new life in New Orleans. Williams' also penned The Glass Menagerie and Night of Iguana.

Jessica Phelps West stars as Blanche du Bois. A freelance director in Atlanta, Phelps West has also graced the Square's stages in The Beauty Queen of Leenane, Hedda Gabler, The Heiress, Private Lives and Elizabeth the Queen.

Joining her in the cast are Charles Pittard (Stanley), Shannon Malone (Stella), Allen O'Reilly (Mitch), Karen Howell (Eunice), David Calhoun (Pablo), Sam Word (Steve), Vic Lambert (Doctor), Holly Stevenson (Nurse) and Chris Moses (Young Man).

Dr. August Straub directs. A professor with University of Georgia for 20 years, Straub helmed the Theatre in the Square's The Waiting Room, Cash on Delivery, Hedda Gabler and Private Lives.
