News Gavin Lee Will Take Leave of Absence from Broadway's Mary Poppins Gavin Lee will take a leave of absence from the Broadway cast of Mary Poppins beginning Jan. 6, 2013, to assume the role of Jerry Travers in the West End hit Top Hat.

Lee will return to his role as Bert in Mary Poppins in early August 2013. His temporary replacement in the Broadway production at the New Amsterdam Theatre has yet to be named.

Lee received Drama Desk and Theatre World Awards along with Olivier and Tony Award nominations for creating the role of Bert in both the London and Broadway productions of the Disney and Cameron Mackintosh musical Mary Poppins.

The Broadway production of Mary Poppins officially opened on Nov.16, 2006, recouping its initial Broadway investment within 52 weeks of its premiere. It is the only show from the 2006-07 theatrical season still running.
