The oratorio for soloists and chorus received its world premiere in June with the San Francisco's Gay Men's Chorus under the direction of Noah Himmelstein. Lippa, who appeared as Milk in that staging, will repeat his performance with the GMCLA July 19-20 at the Walt Disney Concert Hall.

Bruce Cohen (Big Fish) produces.

"I Am Harvey Milk is our 60-minute oratorio capturing the colorful and tragic life of Harvey Milk, from his childhood, to his rise as the first openly gay man to hold public office in California, to his untimely assassination. Part choral work and part theater piece, I Am Harvey Milk is an exceptional and emotional celebration of a true American icon," according to GMCLA.

A cast recording of the San Francisco premiere of I Am Harvey Milk, which also featured Laura Benanti as a soloist, will be released this fall.

Lippa is the composer-lyricist of Big Fish, The Addams Family, The Wild Party and john & jen, among others.
