"Productions of Into the Woods often lean so heavily elaborate costumes and sets and special effects that the show becomes about those things, instead of the story" stated Lucid by Proxy producer David Nett. "We wanted our Into the Woods to be about the performers and the audience the play - the actors just singing the amazing music and telling the wonderful, dark story to the audience."

With book and direction by James Lapine and a score by Stephen Sondheim, Into the Woods originally opened at Broadway's Martin Beck Theatre on Nov. 5, 1987, playing 765 performances before closing Sept. 3, 1989. The original Broadway company boasted Bernadette Peters, Chip Zien, Robert Westenberg, Joanna Gleason, Tom Aldredge, Barbara Bryne, Kim Crosby, Chuck Wagner and Ben Wright. The musical won Tonys for Best Book, Best Score and Best Actress in a Musical (Gleason). The 2002 revival — starring Vanessa Williams, Laura Benanti, Stephen DeRosa, Gregg Edelman, Kerry O'Malley and Christopher Sieber — played 18 previews and 279 regular performances at the Broadhurst Theatre. The Sondheim score features such tunes as "Agony," "On the Steps of the Palace," "Children Will Listen," "Giants in the Sky," "No One Is Alone" and the title tune.

Big Art Labs is located at 651 Clover Street in downtown Los Angeles. Tickets are $30 (discounts available). For tickets and information visit www.lucidbyproxy.com or call (800) 838-3006.
