News George Wendt Gets Back in the Dress for Hairspray on Prince Edward Island George Wendt will appear again as Edna Turnblad, the hefty and supportive mom he played in Hairspray on Broadway, when the Tony Award-winning musical is presented at the Charlottetown Festival in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.

The production will play The Homburg Theatre at the Confederation Centre of the Arts Sept. 8-Oct. 9.  Tracey Pisalidis will play Edna's dancing daughter, Tracy Turnblad, and Erica Peck will appear as Penny. “I am so excited to be jumping back into Edna's shoes for the wonderful people of Prince Edward Island," Wendt said in a statement. "I'm looking forward to working with a great cast and crew, and bringing Baltimore to Charlottetown."

Wendt is best known for playing Norm Peterson on the long-running sitcom "Cheers," for which he received six Emmy nominations. He also appeared in the national tour of 12 Angry Men, the Broadway and London productions of Art, and in David Mamet's Lakeboat. Screen credits include the television remake of "Bye Bye Birdie," "Forever Young," "Guilty by Suspicion," "Fletch," "Gung Ho," "Rupert’s Land" and "Outside Providence."
