Ute Lemper will take a break from "All That Jazz" in Broadway's Chicago to sing European cabaret songs and more with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra Pops, 8 PM May 7-8 at The Bushnell in Hartford, CT.

Sultry, German-born Lemper, who plays Velma Kelly in Chicago in New York, originated the revival role in the London version. Her musical theatre career began when she played in the Vienna staging of Cats.

With HSO music director Michael Lankester conducting, Lemper will perform work from the songbooks of Kurt Weill, Marlene Dietrich and Edith Piaf, including "Falling in Love Again," "La Vie en Rose," "Want to Buy Some Illusions" and "Ich bin von Kopf bis Fuss."

Lemper's recordings include "City of Strangers" (music of Stephen Sondheim and others), "Ute Lemper Sings Kurt Weill" and "Illusions," based on work by Dietrich and Piaf.

Tickets are $15-$47; half-price tickets for students 18 and under also are available. Student rush tickets will be available for half-price an hour before the performance to full-time students with valid IDs. Call (860) 987-5900 or (860) 244-2999 for ticket information.
