Michael R. Jackson's White Girl in Danger musical, seen Off-Broadway last year, has been preserved with a cast recording, and Playbill has the first listen to the show's opening number, "Allwhite".

The original cast recording is set to be digitally released March 29 by Yellow Sound Label, who previously recorded Jackson's Pulitzer Prize- and Tony-winning musical A Strange Loop. Pre-order the release here.

White Girl in Danger played Off-Broadway at Second Stage in 2023. Co-produced with Vineyard Theatre, the musical is described as a "fever dream mashup of classic daytime and primetime soap operas, Lifetime movies, and red-hot melodrama."

The musical follows the citizens of Allwhite, a town filled with drama and intrigue worthy of a daytime soap opera. Keesha Gibbs and the other Blackgrounds have been relegated to backburner stories of slavery and police violence. Keesha is determined to step out of the Blackground and into the center of Allwhite’s juiciest stories.

Starring in the Off-Broadway premiere were Liz Lark Brown as Diane W/Barbara W/Judith W, Kayla Davion as Florence, Latoya Edwards as Keesha Gibbs, Jennifer Fouché as Abilene, Morgan Siobhan Green as Caroline, Molly Hager as Megan White, Vincent Jamal Hooper as Tarik Blackwell, James Jackson, Jr. as Clarence, Tarra Conner Jones as Nell Gibbs, Alyse Alan Louis as Maegan Whitehall, Lauren Marcus as Maegan Whitehead, and Eric William Morris as Matthew S/Scott M/Zack Paul Gosselar.

LaDonna Burns, Melessie Clark, Alexis Cofield, Shane Donovan, Jon-Michael Reese, and Natalie Walker rounded out the company as understudies.

Tony nominee Lileana Blain-Cruz (The Skin of Our Teeth) directed the musical, with Raja Feather Kelly (A Strange Loop) choreographing. The production also featured scenic design by Adam Rigg, costume design by Montana Levi Blanco, lighting design by Jen Schriever, sound design by Jonathan Deans, projection design by Josh Higgason, and music direction and supervision by Meg Zervoulis. Orchestrations were by Lynne Shankel.

The forthcoming recording is produced by Michael Croiter, Shankel, and Jackson and co-produced by Meg Zervoulis, with Salman al-Rashid and Accidental Jacket Entertainment serving as executive producers. Shankel again provides orchestrations.

Jackson originally developed the new musical at Vineyard Theatre as part of a multi-year residency. Jackson's A Strange Loop received 11 Tony nominations, winning the 2022 Tony Award for Best Musical with Jackson taking home the Tony for Best Book. Teeth, Jackson's new musical with Anna K. Jacobs, is currently playing through April 14 at Playwrights Horizons.
