In the photo, Ansel Elgort and newcomer Rachel Zegler (center) hold hands as Tony and Maria. Flanking them are the Jets (Ezra Menas as Anybodys, Ben Cook as Mouthpiece, Sean Harrison Jones as Action, Mike Faist as Riff, and Patrick Higgins as Baby John) and the Sharks (David Alvarez as Bernardo, Julius Anthony Rubio as Quique, Richard Zayas as Chago, Josh Andrés Rivera as Chino, Sebastian Serra as Braulio, and Carlos Sánchez Falú as Pipo).
The Twentieth Century Fox movie, featuring a script by Angels in America scribe Tony Kushner, is set to arrive in theatres December 18, 2020.
The cast also includes Ariana DeBose as Anita, Brian d'Arcy James as Officer Krupke, Corey Stoll as Lieutenant Schrank, and Rita Moreno, who returns to the title after winning an Oscar in 1962 for the original movie to play Valentina—a new take on the show's Doc.
Spielberg has recruited a bevy of theatre veterans to help bring the musical by Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim, Arthur Laurents, and Jerome Robbins back to the screen, including conductor Gustavo Dudamel, vocal coach Jeanine Tesori, and choreographer Justin Peck.
