Performances began September 15 for the world premiere of Jiréh Breon Holder’s Too Heavy For Your Pocket, a new play that takes audiences back to the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s.

Set in Nashville in the summer of 1961, the story follows 20-year-old Bowzie Brandon, a young man who gives up a life-changing college scholarship to join The Freedom Riders on their journey into the Deep South.

Directed by Margot Bordelon, the cast is made up of Brandon Gill (Bella) as Bowzie, Eboni Flowers (Dead Dog Park), Hampton Fluker (Shades of Blue), and Nneka Okafor (Troilus and Cressida).
