Choreographer Jared Grimes has created new tap sequences for the Henry Krieger-Robert Lorick-Charles Blackwell musical, with Lydia Diamond penning a new concert adaptation and Joseph Joubert serving as music director.
Get a sneak peek of the production in the video above. Watch rehearsals for "Class Act"—featuring Trevor Jackson, Adrienne Walker, and DeWitt Fleming Jr.—and Alexander Bello and the musical's ensemble in "Crosstown."
The company is led by Jackson (Grown-ish) as Uncle Dipsey, Tony nominee Joshua Henry (Carousel) as William, Tracee Beazer (Frozen) as Carole, acclaimed tap dancer Fleming Jr. as Daddy Bates, Shahadi Wright Joseph (Us) as Emma, Chance K. Smith as Winslow, Walker (The Lion King) as Ginnie, and Bello (Caroline, or Change) as Willie.
Nominated for seven 1984 Tony Awards, the musical tells the story of Willie, a 10-year-old boy from an upper-middle-class Black family, who dreams of becoming a professional tap dancer.
