News Ghost the Musical to Open at London's Piccadilly in Summer 2011 Ghost the Musical has announced that it will begin performances at the West End's Piccadilly Theatre June 22, 2011, prior to an official opening July 19. The box office will open Sept. 23. As previously announced, it will play a seven-week out-of-town try-out run at Manchester's Opera House March 28-May 14.

No casting has yet been officially confirmed, but according to reports in the Daily Mail, Sharon D. Clark will play the role of Oda Mae Brown, the bogus medium that was played by Whoopi Goldberg in the 1990 film. Clark has previously appeared in the West End in such shows as Once On This Island, The Lion King and We Will Rock You.

Ghost the Musical is directed by Matthew Warchus, and has new music and lyrics by Grammy Award winners Dave Stewart and Glen Ballard, and the score will also feature the Righteous Brothers classic "Unchained Melody" for the film's iconic love scene set at a potter's wheel. Oscar-winning Bruce Joel Rubin will adapt his original screenplay for the stage and write lyrics. Set and costumes designs are by Rob Howell, musical supervision and arrangements by Christopher Nightingale, illusions are by Paul Kieve, choreography is by Ashley Wallen with lighting by Hugh Vanstone and sound by Simon Baker.

In press materials, Ghost is described as a "timeless story about love. It revolves around Sam, who is is trapped as a ghost between this world and the next trying to communicate with his girlfriend Molly through a phoney psychic in the hope of saving her from his murderer."
