News Gilman's The Crowd You're in With Extends Debut Run at SF's Magic Theatre The Magic Theatre's world premiere engagement of Rebecca Gilman's The Crowd You're in With has been extended through Dec. 22.

Amy Glazer directs the production, which began its run Nov. 10 and opened Nov. 17 at Magic's Sam Shepard Theatre. The show — "hailed by critics and audiences alike," according to an announcement — was originally slated to conclude Dec. 9, but now adds two weeks of performances at the San Francisco venue.

Gilman's newest work, according to press notes, is set at "a backyard barbecue, [which] is the perfect place to tackle the big questions: Is the chicken done? Will the weather hold up? Is it the right time to have a baby?"

The ensemble features Lorri Holt, Makela Spielman, Kevin Rolston, T. Edward Webster, Allison Jean White, Charles Shaw Robinson and Chris Yule.

The design team features Erik Flatmo (set), Kurt Landisman (lighting), Meg Neville (costumes) and Sara Huddleston (sound).

This production marks the fourth collaboration between playwright Gilman and director Glazer, who have previously teamed at the Magic Theatre on The American in Me, Blue Surge and The Sweetest Swing in Baseball. Gilman's other works include Spinning Into Butter, Boy Gets Girl and the Pulitzer Prize finalist The Glory of Living. The season at the Magic will continue with Betty Shamieh's Territories (Jan. 12-Feb. 10, 2008), Edna O'Brien's Tir Na Nog ("Land of Youth") (Feb. 23-March 23, 2008), Kevin Fisher's Monkey Room (April 5-May 4, 2008) and Wendy MacLeod's Birnham Woods (May 10-June 8, 2008).
