Performances begin September 25 at The Public Theater for the New York premiere of Jane Anderson’s play about Joan of Arc, Mother of the Maid. The new play offers a rarely-seen perspective on the historical figure.

Oscar nominee Glenn Close leads the cast as Isabelle Arc, Joan of Arc’s mother. A sensible, hard-working, God-fearing peasant woman, her faith is upended as she deals with the baffling journey of her odd and extraordinary daughter.

The Matthew Penn-helmed production has been extended twice and is scheduled through December 23.

Grace Van Patten (The Whirligig) plays Joan. She and Close are joined onstage by Dermot Crowley (The Weir) as Jacques Arc, Olivia Gillatt (Pushkin) as Monique, Kate Jennings Grant (Noises Off) as Lady of the Court, Andrew Hovelson (Lucky Guy) as Pierre Arc, Daniel Pearce (Machinal) as Father Gilbert, and

Mother of the Maid features sets by John Lee Beatty, costumes by Jane Greenwood, lighting design by Lap Chi Chu, and sound design and original music by Alexander Sovronsky and Joanna Lynne Staub. The production will officially open October 17.
