Glory Crampton Joins Cast of York Theatre's Rothschild & Sons Musical | Playbill

News Glory Crampton Joins Cast of York Theatre's Rothschild & Sons Musical Glory Crampton has joined the cast of The York Theatre Company's production of Rothschild & Sons. Crampton will play the pivotal role of Gutele Rothschild.

Crampton will be joining Broadway vet Robert Cuccioli in this revamped production, which will be directed by Jeffrey B. Moss.

Rothschild & Sons launches York Theatre's 2015-16 season. The run, which will officially open Oct. 6, is presented by Arnold Mittelman and The National Jewish Theater Foundation. Rothschild & Sons features music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick and a book by Sherman Yellen.

Dubbed by Yellen as a "musical love story between a father and his sons," the new development is based on the Tony-nominated The Rothschilds, which opened on Broadway in 1970, inspired by the novel of the same name by Frederic Morton about the foundation of the dynasty of German-Jewish financiers. A story of human rights and triumph, the new work focuses on the relationships between the patriarch of the family, Mayer Rothschild, to be played by Cuccioli, his wife Gutele, to be played by Crampton, and their five sons, living as Jews in a German ghetto.

Rothschild & Sons, a more intimate, one-act retelling, features several songs not included in the original, with new lyrics by Harnick. Composer Bock passed away in 2010.

The York Theatre Company performs at Saint Peter’s Church, located on East 54th St. in Manhattan. Tickets are available at YorkTheatre.org or by calling (212) 935-5820.
