Cody Simpson, the Australian pop star known for such songs as "Underwater" and "Surfboard," made his Broadway debut in Anastasia November 29. Simpson stepped into the role of Dmitry, succeeding Zach Adkins who concluded his run in the show November 25.

Simpson joins a cast currently led by Christy Altomare as Anya, Tony winner Judy Kaye as the Dowager Empress, Tony nominee Max von Essen as Gleb (who leaves the production December 16), Vicki Lewis as Countess Lily, and John Bolton as Vlad.

The Darko Tresnjak-helmed musical, based on the 1997 animated film, opened on Broadway in April 2017. Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, who earned Oscar nominations for the score and song "Journey to the Past," composed new material for the stage adaptation, reuniting with their Ragtime collaborator Terrence McNally, who penned the book.
