News Godspell Begins Ivoryton Playhouse's 2009 Season in CT Stephen Schwartz and John Michael Tebelak's Godspell, the pop musical retelling of the Gospel of St. Matthew, launches the 2009 season of the Ivoryton Playhouse on March 20 following previews from March 18.

Featuring the classic song "Day by Day," the musical gets a new Equity staging in Ivoryton, CT, directed by Larry Thelen, a former artistic associate for nearby Goodspeed Musicals. The cast includes Joshua Isaacs as Jesus and Chris Glein as John the Baptist/Judas, with Tiana Checcia, Patrick H. Dunn, Brent Wellington Barker III, Elisabeth Cernadas, Hillary Ekwall, Nicole Heriot, Jorie Janeway and Robert Wayne Schultz Jr.

The creative team also includes musical director John DeNicola, choreographer Lisa Niedermeyer, set designer Dan Nischan, costume designer Pam Puente and lighting designer Doug Harry.

Performances continue to April 5.

Tickets are $35 for adults, $30 for seniors, $20 for students and $15 for children and are available by calling the Playhouse box office at (860) 767-7318 or by visiting www.ivorytonplayhouse.org.

* The Ivoryton Playhouse was first used as a community hall for workers of the local piano factory and then had a long history as a star-filled summer stock house under Broadway stage manager Milton Stiefel (Katharine Hepburn made her debut there), followed by summer seasons produced by the not-for-profit River Rep (1987-2005). The Playhouse now produces its own productions.

The Ivoryton Playhouse is located at 103 Main Street in Ivoryton, in the Connecticut River region, not far from Goodspeed Musicals' operations.
